Athlete Lab to open in Farmington Hills this October

A world-class high-performance training and sports science center for competitive athletes.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Suburban Sports Group (SSG) announced today the Athlete Lab, a state-of-the-art high-performance training and sports science center, is set to open in Farmington Hills, Mich., this October. The Athlete Lab provides progressive training, testing and education to inspire and support an athlete’s peak physical and mental performance.

SSG has teamed up with Madison Heights-based 2SP Sports Performance to provide full-service performance training and testing services for athletes in individual, small group or team sessions at the facility.  The facility will also serve as a new location for Brighton-based APEX Physical Therapy.

“We are very excited about bringing these resources together to create a space to fully support the needs of today’s competitive athlete,” said Suburban Sports Group CEO Tom Anastos. “Our goal is to not only provide training and tools that will help an athlete pursue their dreams and highest potential today, but also to help establish a set of physical and mental skills and lifestyle habits that will impact their lives long after their competitive playing days are over.”

The 13,000 square-foot facility will feature over 6,600 square feet of performance training space, a Cognitive Training Zone, indoor turf, Mind Gym Classroom, Study Areas, Athlete Lounge, Recovery Area, Fuel Bar and Physical Therapy clinic.

2SP Sports Performance, a full-service training company specializing in rotational sports with four locations throughout southeast Michigan, will train athletes in the performance training space, which will feature weight racks, Kaiser squat racks; FreeMotion cable columns; a dumbbell zone; a skating treadmill, and an adjacent turfed area with Torque Tank4 sleds, sprint lanes, a medicine ball zone, battle rope zone and open space for functional movement exercises. Founded in 2007 by Joe Neal, Director of Athlete Performance, 2SP Sports has been committed to bettering athletes for over a decade. Their custom programs blend disciplines of exercise science, coaching and athletic skill development which implement robust habits that will help an athlete succeed in competition, on and off the field.

The performance training space, created with the elite athlete in mind, will also include approximately 1,000 square feet dedicated to a Cognitive Training Zone that will utilize the Sense Arena virtual reality training and Senaptec Technology, designed to improve movement, balance and reaction time.

APEX Physical Therapy, which is opening its second location in Michigan, focuses on hands-on Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (OMPT) as well as specific and individualized exercise programs to eliminate symptoms, restore movement, and improve function.

The Athlete’s Lounge will serve as a leisure area for athletes to relax and unwind, as well as an opportunity to refuel at the Athlete Lab Fuel Bar.

Located across the street from Suburban Ice Farmington Hills on Freeway Park Dr., the Athlete Lab is conveniently accessible, located close to the M-5/696 interchange, I96 and I275 near Grand River Ave. and West 10 Mile Rd.
